We don't want electronic voting, and we
can't afford it!
Your bills that allow switching to
electronic voting, A5 and S1809, lack meaningful security procedures. You would
hand our elections over to equipment vendors, conceal 97% of ballot counting,
and force us to spend money we don't have -- for equipment we don't want!
NYVV.org's cost study showed that the
federal money we get will NOT cover the purchase of evoting equipment, much
less the increased continuing costs.* And when the evote warrantees run out in
5 years, and the equipment has to be replaced? We'll spend more!
Electronic voting $230,473,000
Optical
Scan $114,423,640
SAVINGS
from Optical Scan $116,049,360
We urge you to pass the Scan and Be
Sure bill, A6503 to require paper ballots marked by hand, or by the accessible
Automark for voters with disabilities/non-English languages, and precinct-based
optical scanners to alert voters to errors on the ballot before it is cast.
