FRUGAL VOTER QUESTION ONE:
SHOULD
NEW YORK STATE
SPEND $200,000,000.00 FOR
ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINES?
O Yes, even though I
can’t see what’s going
on inside an electronic
voting machine, I
trust all the
voting machines, the machine manufacturers (even
the ones which
are foreign owned and/or employ convicted felons
or have partisan
connections) , and their
vendors, and the
software engineers, and the
computer technicians , and the
election officials who will
test the voting
machines (even if they
don’t know anything
about computer security ), and
the moving guys
with the U-Haul
truck that will
deliver the voting
machines to the
polling place, Yes
I trust that
my vote will
be recorded accurately and
will be counted
accurately…….…….. I think.
O No, I don’t think
so. I’ll take
the advice of
the many good
government and voting
rights organizations which
advocate we use
the more reliable,
more secure, and
much more economical,
paper ballot voting
system. And, if
there is an
important reason for
getting the results
faster than hand-counting would allow, I
can accept a
ballot scanner counting
my vote but
only if the
scanner is programmed
and maintained by
municipal workers, not
by a private corporation , and
the hand-counted tally
of paper ballots
remains the official
record of the
election.
