OMAHA, Neb., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Minnesota Secretary of
State Mary Kiffmeyer announced today that the state has selected Election
Systems & Software, Inc. (ES&S), the world's largest and most
experienced provider of voting technology, to make available a new optical scan
voting system statewide.
Components of the new system will include ES&S' Model
100 precinct-level ballot counters and ES&S' AutoMARK Voter Assist
Terminals, which enable all voters to check their ballots for errors and allow
voters with disabilities to cast an optical scan ballot privately and
independently. The new systems will bring the state into compliance with the
Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002. The law provides federal funding to
replace outdated voting systems with new technology and to offer greater
accessibility opportunities for disabled voters.
"For more than 35 years, ES&S has worked
hand-in-hand with state and local election officials in Minnesota to improve
our election process," Kiffmeyer said. "This history, combined with
ES&S' leading-edge technology, helps our state achieve HAVA
compliance."
The ES&S Model 100 ballot counter and the ES&S
AutoMARK fit Minnesota's unique voting system requirements. The system
represents the very latest in optical scan voting technology.
"The Help America Vote Act represents a fantastic
opportunity to make the voting process more accessible and more reliable for
Minnesota voters," said Aldo Tesi, President and CEO of ES&S. "We
are pleased to be able to offer new voting systems that will help bring the
state into compliance, and enhance the voting experience for all."
