Daily Voting News - 17 December 2004

Washington and Ohio still dominate the news. In Washington more uncounted ballots were found in King Co. (Seattle). There are now over 700 ballots that have never been counted and the state court says they cannot be counted. The governor race is tightening up enough to where the GOP has gotten nervous and there are whispers about just cancelling the whole thing and doing it all over again. In Ohio counties are still reporting differences which are supposed to lead to automatic 100% recounts, but that rule is being ignored for the time being. The court is very involved while Kerry is getting involved just enough to have a finger in but not enough for anyone to know he is there. In California, Diebold and the state have settled their lawsuit and the city of Berkeley has become the first city to call for an investigation into the Nov. presidential election.

Perry Co., OH – Election of new auditor has been challenged because of voting peculiarities. “In at least 11 of the county's 46 precincts, the number of votes cast exceeded the number of people who signed the voting books on Election Day, according to the lawsuit. It cites cases where 359 votes were cast by people whose signatures were never verified, as election law requires.”
