On November 15, the City Council passed legislation increasing the salaries
of all city elected officials. The increases were the first in seven years, and
were recommended by a Mayoral Commission appointed earlier this year after
Mayor Bloomberg did not convene one in 2003 as required by the City Charter
because of the city's then fiscal crisis.
